AC Repair

When AC Repair is the Right Fix

System runs but blows warm air
AC won't turn on at all
Outdoor unit hums but the fan won't spin
Ice on the refrigerant lines or indoor coil
Short-cycling — turns on and off every few minutes
Water pooling around the indoor air handler

We diagnose before we quote

Most 'AC is dead' calls in Kansas City come down to a handful of failures: a blown run capacitor ($185–$285), a failed contactor, a low refrigerant charge from a leak, a tripped float switch on a clogged condensate drain, or a frozen coil from low airflow. We test the actual fault with gauges and a meter instead of swapping parts until something works. You get the diagnosis and the price before we touch a wrench.

Refrigerant leaks and the R-22 problem

If your system is low on refrigerant, it has a leak — refrigerant doesn't get 'used up.' We find and fix the leak rather than just topping off. On older R-22 systems (pre-2010, mostly), refrigerant now runs $80–$150 a pound and the EPA phase-out means it only gets worse. We'll tell you honestly when chasing a leak on an R-22 unit is throwing good money after bad versus putting it toward a modern R-410A or R-454B replacement.

Repair vs. replace — the honest math

The rule of thumb: multiply the repair cost by the system's age. If that number tops $5,000, replacement usually wins. A 14-year-old condenser needing an $1,800 compressor is almost always a replace; a 6-year-old unit needing a $250 capacitor is always a repair. We do this math out loud, with your unit's age and SEER in front of you, and we never scare you into a replacement you don't need.

How AC Repair Works

1

Diagnose

Gauges, meter, and airflow check to find the actual fault — not a guess based on symptoms.

2

Quote the fix

Flat-rate repair price up front, plus repair-vs-replace math if the unit is aging.

3

Repair

Most common parts are on the truck for same-day completion.

4

Verify

We confirm a 16–20°F temperature split across the coil before we leave.

AC Repair — Frequently Asked

Why is my AC running but blowing warm air?

Most often a low refrigerant charge (meaning a leak), a frozen indoor coil from restricted airflow, or a failed compressor or capacitor in the outdoor unit. A dirty filter starving the system of airflow is a surprisingly common root cause — change it and call us if it doesn't recover.

How fast can you get here in summer?

Same day for most of the metro during cooling season, though peak heat waves can push it to next-day. We triage no-cool calls for homes with infants, elderly residents, or medical needs first.

Should I repair or replace a 12-year-old AC?

It depends on the repair cost and the refrigerant type. A small repair (capacitor, contactor) is worth it. A major repair on an R-22 system that's already 12+ years old usually isn't — we'll show you the numbers so it's your call, not a sales pitch.
